We sat down with another happy SPACETALK customer, Will Kottaridis, a sales executive from the Porsche Centre Adelaide with four children all under the age of ten. Despite having initial doubts over the device, Will was eager to share his delight at how much security and peace of mind SPACETALK has provided.
‘It’s come to be a lifesaver,’ he says, ‘ticks all the boxes.’
Receiving the device over a year ago, Will was sceptical and waited 6 months for his eldest to enter the 4th grade before handing it over. Charged with the school day ritual of rounding up his siblings after school to be picked up or to walk them over to after school care, Will’s eldest is in close contact with whichever parent is picking him up.
Because I’ve been home during the coronavirus, some days I pick them up sometimes I don’t. If there’s no after school care, we’ll use SPACETALK to get in contact to let them know there’s been a change of plans. do this, go to the office, whatever.’
With school mode enabled during the school day, allowing Will and his wife complete control over the device, selectively enabling or disabling features at his leisure. Will’s eldest often reports back on his daily step counter pursuit much to his father’s disbelief, ‘I played soccer, I played chasey, Dad look how many steps I did… thousands!’
Together with the ability to define classroom periods that make the watch distraction free, Will’s eldest isn’t just limited to contacting his parents either. Attached to the pre-approved contact list, in the event of an emergency, other family members are on call to lend a hand, ‘we have two sister in laws, one on my side, one on my wife’s side, and he knows if there’s anything that’s happening with us he can contact them.’
Even during the days when the children were at home and Mum at work as a result of COVID school closures, ‘I’ll be up on a ladder doing something around the house. Mum knows I haven’t got my phone on me, so she’ll message the SPACETALK so my son can vouch that I’m all right!
Will recalled a disconcerting story a few years ago where he went to pick up his child from school. Waiting to pick him up at his usual spot, Will found that he wasn’t there. He parked and walked into the school and realised his son was nowhere to be seen. 15 minutes had passed, and miraculously he appeared out of thin air. ‘As a parent you think the worst, heartache isn’t the word, it’s a cold sweat.,’ When something like that happens, In that small-time frame, anything could have happened, he could have gone missing.
‘With the watch, you are at the top of your game, it’s a win win all round.’
Many thanks to Will from the Porsche Centre Adelaide for reaching out to us and agreeing to sit down to detail his heart-warming SPACETALK experience.
